Nice fossil woodwasp from the Solnhofen limestone quarries in Bavaria. Fossil insects from Solnhofen often show their details much better on the negative than on the positive side. The same happens here with this well preserved Myrmicium, where you can recognize antennae, wing-structures and the ovipositor with the naked eye.
Formation: Tithonian, Malm zeta 2b, upper Jurassic
Age: ~150 -145 million years
Site of the find: Solnhofen, Bavaria, Germany
